94,136A golden chapter in the history of the U.S military was written, when F-15 eagle shot down an actual satellite in the orbit, with an anti satellite missile. By 1980s, the Soviet Union had already launched a lot of spy satellites into space, to keep a close eye on U.S carrier strike groups in the oceans. To deal with this threat, America chose F-15, because it was big and powerful enough, to carry a 3000 pound ASM-135 missile, the largest missile ever mounted on an F-15. On September 13th 1985, Major Wilbert D Pearson took off from Edwards Air Force base, on a mission to destroy an outdated American weather satellite, called P-78-1 or the Soldwind. But this was a high stakes mission, because the solwind satellite was moving 17000 miles an hour. In order to smack it, you'd have to be very precise, your calculations must be something called perfect, and any mistake was not affordable! Then at 35,000 feet, some 200 miles off the coast of California, Pearson fired the missile, and within seconds the missile blow the satellite! This feat only happened once, and sent a strong message to the USSR, that you're not allowed to use satellites against America. This mission is known as "celestial eagle."
