In January of 2021, an Iranian SH-3 sea king helicopter captured a footage in which a submarine cruising at periscope depth can be seen in the Persian Gulf. At first circumstances were unclear, and it was reported that an unidentified foreign submarine entered the Iranian naval training area near the strait of Hormuz, but it became clear very soon that it was a US navy's guided missile submarine. The USS Georgia SSGN-729 is one of the four Ohio submarines that were converted from ballistic missile submarines to guided missile subs, instead of retirement. Each of these submarines now carry 154 tomahawk cruise missiles. The Submarine transited into the Persian Gulf on December 21st 2020. The dry dock shelter installed on USS Georgia is also visible in the submarine's underwater profile. The helicopter and submarine observed one another, and then moved on, as if nothing happened! May be USS Georgia was there to keep an eye on Iranian drills, but it reportedly left the area afterward.
