This Russian Submarine Sank Twice #shorts
In April 1983, US Navy began fleet ex 83 exercise in the northern Pacific Ocean, with three carrier battle groups participated. The Soviet navy ordered K-429 back to duty, which was in the mid of an overhaul process. Crew mistakenly refilled the already full ballast tank, because boat's instrumentations were not properly set up due to overhaul. On June 23rd, when captain ordered a dive, sub instantly descent and hit the bottom, about 39 meters below the sea. Boat's ventilation system had been opened due to overhaul, and caused a quick flooding of the forward compartments, killing 14 sailors. After several hours of "HOPE", two sailors exited through the torpedo compartment to report the plight of submarine. On June 27th, the sub was found, and on August 6th, it was raised from the ocean, and salvage began. Then in September 1985, the boat sank again at dockside, killing 1 sailor. The K-429 was again raised, but not returned to sea, and served as a training hull, and was scrapped in the 1990s.
