Number 10 Minah
A 27-year-old tourist named Binula Wickramarachchi was walking through the national park of Sumatra Orangutan Observation Centre when he encountered an orangutan. The ape allegedly swung down from the trees as Binula and his tour group were trekking through the jungle. Binula was bitten on the knee and suffered minor injuries. Shortly afterwards, he was rushed to a hospital nearby where he received treatment. It was later discovered that the animal that had attacked him was a 38-year-old orangutan named Minah who had escaped after being kept as a pet.
Number 9 Parvin Hajihossini
Parvin Hajihossini and her boyfriend were staying at a bed and breakfast in the Cattskill Mountains, upstate New York, in September 2010. The facility had a resident capuchin monkey named Benjamin that was kept in a cage. Parvin went over to his cage to take a photo, but before she could understand what was happening, the monkey escaped and attacked her. Benjamin bit Parvin by the face, leaving her with an open wound that required multiple stitches.
Number 8 Dee Darwell
A British woman was on a trip to conquer her fear of primates. She joined a tour run by the Siam Sea Canoe tourist agency to the Monkey Island, near Phi Phi Don, Thailand. 56-year-old Dee Darwell was walking alone when she was attacked by a pack of macaques. Before the attack, Darwell was heading towards a rock in the shade where she was planning to sit and cool down.
Number 7 Yangon Zoo
An employee at the Yangon Zoo in Myanmar had to temporarily move three monkeys from their enclosure in order to clean it up. The monkeys were taken to another cage that was only secured with a piece of wire. One zoogoer allegedly thought it would be funny to remove the wire and the animals escaped. The three monkeys caused panic during the next hours, attacking two women. One of them was bitten while trying to protect her grandchildren and pregnant daughter-in-law. The other woman was bitten when she tried to pet one of the monkeys, thinking it was tame.
Number 6 Wild Monkeys in Supa Village
Wild monkeys living near Supa Village in the Indian state of Gujarat left locals frightened to leave their homes. At least 19 persons were viciously attacked by monkeys in May 2018, and some of the unexpected encounters were recorded by CCTV cameras. One video showed a biker being thrown off his motorcycle by a monkey that seems to come out of nowhere and jump at him.
Number 5 Spanky
A woman named Tina Ballard decided to take her spider monkey Spanky along while shopping at the Home Depot in Florida. Ballard left the animal in her truck on a leash and went inside the store. However, Spanky shortly managed to climb out of the truck and approached employee Marilyn Howard, who was standing outside the store. Howard reported that, at first, the monkey seemed friendly, as it reached up and grabbed her hand.
Number 4 JayJay the Macaque
A family’s pet Macaque of nine years attacked his owner and managed to escape its home in Okeechobee, Florida. Jimmy Schwall and his wife, Mona, had had the monkey since it was only three weeks old. They used to keep it in a large enclosure in their yard and dress it up in costumes and clothes for Halloween. The monkey was even allowed to play with the children in the pool. However, in August 2012, the monkey allegedly ‘flipped out’ and escaped. Jimmy Schwall tried to catch JayJay with a net, but the monkey managed to set itself free by clamping down on Schwall’s buttock and tearing his hand apart.
Number 3 Baby Mauled by Baboon over Doll
A one-year-old baby and her 12-year-old brother were playing outside their home in Victorian Falls, Zimbabwe, in May 2018. She ran outside and saw her baby daughter being bitten on the head by a baboon. The woman reportedly hit the primate with a stone and that’s when it let go of the baby. However, the animal had already sunken its teeth deep into the girl’s skull.
Number 2 Infant Eaten by Monkey
Although the infant was left disfigured, he was taken to the hospital and doctors reported that the injuries he had suffered were not life threatening. The incident happened in September 2013. Reports from that year mentioned hundreds of incidents involving the monkeys that roam free at the wildlife park in Guiyang.
Number 1 Trainer Attacked by Monkeys in China
A monkey trainer was doing a street performance in Sizhou, China, when his three monkeys turned on him. The man was trying to get one of the monkeys to ride on a child’s bicycle, but when the animal refused to do so, the trainer beat it with a stick.
