Which NES System Should You Buy?
Ok here are my pros and cons in a nutshell
Original NES:
Pros:
- Cheapest model as of right now
- Plays all US NES carts no issues
- Av Cords are dirt cheap
Cons
- Require lots of maintenance
- Playing import games is not that convenient
NES Top Loader:
Pros:
- Better connector designer/less maintenance
- Uses same power adapter/controllers as original model
- Slimmer design
Cons:
I list this first because this con is a pretty big one, this console revision only supports RF out, which is in my opinion the worst decision they made lol.
- Can't use the Game Genie with an expensive adapter.
Family Computer (Famicom):
Pros:
- Has a cool microphone, which is only supported by a few games Zelda being the most well known.
- Same design as US Top Loader, no bending pins
Cons:
- Controllers are built in to the console, which means they are quite short.
- Zapper Gun is very expensive
- Supports only RF out
AV Famicom:
Pros:
- Uses Multi-out AV port, which is the same as the SNES, N64, and GameCube.
- Easily plays 95-97% of all US games with a cheap adapter.
- Famicom games are (generally) cheaper than their US releases
Cons:
- Will not play the US Release of Castlevania III with a converter, you could just buy the import version more expensive though.
- No Microphone support with the stock controllers, you will need to find third-party controllers that have a mic, which are not that common.
- You have to buy a different adapter than a US console uses. I recommend using a Sega Genesis Model 1 Adapter. Or a Famicom ac adapter, but I've heard those do not last long.
So there ya go guys. Please like, comment, and subscribe. If you have any questions about either consoles let me know in the comments below or my FB page.
