The Pokémon series is one of the most iconic and beloved franchises in gaming. It started in 1996 and has since expanded into numerous video games, trading card games, TV shows, movies, and other media. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the main Pokémon games:

Main Series Games:
Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow (Game Boy, 1996/1998)

These were the first Pokémon games, where players could catch and train Pokémon to battle others. Red/Blue were the original versions, while Yellow was a special edition with features based on the anime.

Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal (Game Boy Color, 1999/2000)

Introduced the second generation of Pokémon, bringing new types (like Steel and Dark), new Pokémon, and an enhanced day-night cycle.

Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (Game Boy Advance, 2002/2004)

These games marked the third generation, introducing the Hoenn region and new mechanics like abilities and natures.

Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (Nintendo DS, 2006/2008)

The fourth generation brought in the Sinnoh region and introduced online battles and trading, a huge leap forward at the time.

Pokémon Black/White/Black 2/White 2 (Nintendo DS, 2010/2011)

Set in the Unova region, these games featured an entirely new roster of Pokémon (aside from a few legacy ones) and introduced a more story-driven experience.

Pokémon X/Y (Nintendo 3DS, 2013)

The sixth generation games, which introduced 3D graphics and the Fairy type. Set in the Kalos region, inspired by France.

Pokémon Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon (Nintendo 3DS, 2016/2017)

The seventh generation took place in the Alola region, introducing regional variants of classic Pokémon and eliminating traditional gyms in favor of trials.

Pokémon Sword/Shield (Nintendo Switch, 2019)

The eighth generation brought players to the Galar region, inspired by the UK. It featured Dynamaxing, online raids, and an open-world experience in parts.

Pokémon Scarlet/Violet (Nintendo Switch, 2022)

These are the latest entries in the franchise and feature a fully open-world exploration system in the Paldea region, alongside new mechanics like Terastallization.

Spin-off Games:
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series: A dungeon-crawling RPG series where players control Pokémon and explore randomly generated dungeons.

Pokémon GO (Mobile, 2016): A mobile augmented reality game where players catch Pokémon in the real world using their smartphones.

Pokémon Snap (Nintendo 64, 1999): A game focused on taking pictures of Pokémon in their natural habitats.

Pokémon Ranger series: Action-adventure games where players use a stylus to capture Pokémon through drawing paths around them.
