In which I make an AMV that, though the power of just episode one, touches on the backstory of TTASB by showing the Insomnium (the yellow crystal), the two flags of North and South Patricia (who are obviously at war) and the presence of the Incarnates (the shapeshifting humans in white outfits) in a civil war.

To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts is one of my most favorite anime ever and it's one of my top-rated shows that I would recommend anyone who can stomach the mild gore and horror-esque themes to watch. And don't read the manga until you've watched the anime because I can guarantee you the anime is better than the manga when it comes to the chapters the anime covers.

If you want a detailed summary of what this show is about (in my own words) then:

Hank Henriette was once a hero on the battlefield. As an Incarnate - a human who wields the powers of a god - he has fought with his Incarnate comrades to prevent his country from falling to war. However, the powers he keeps inside him come with a price - a price he knows all too well when one of his fellow Incarnates goes on a murder spree. After that moment, he comes to take an oath: those who have lost their souls shall be slain by their own.

Schall Bancroft is the daughter of William Bancroft, one of the Incarnates who left for the war with the South. When he comes back to her as a monster, Schall does her best to provide for him and the rest of her family. However, when a series of events takes her family away from her and has her father slain by a strange man in a white coat, Schall takes up an oath of her own: she will kill the man who has slain her father, even if it means abandoning the life she once knew to get answers.

Crossing paths with one another, the two of them learn that, to fulfill the oaths they've made to themselves, they'll have to journey far and wide to discover the aftermath of a world struggling to recover from a world not quite done with war.
