Why AI Art is Valid Artistic Expression
Why AI-generated art is a valid form of artistic expression. The central theory in art revolves around a concept known as artist's intent. It's the notion that art must be made with a clear intent in mind, one that is inserted from a subject's conscious, central viewpoint into a work. Although author's intent is ironclad, the idea of sole discretion or "original" authorship is flimsy at best and delusional at worst. So, too, is the concept that only humans can make art, and for some inexplicable, arbitrary reason, AI should be precluded from making "real art." Art is all around us and human potential is not special nor unique. The art can always be separated from the artist -- because they are born separate. Art is an alibi. The artist and the artist's Persona and the art they produce (or reproduce) are two different entities.
This is a philosophical video essay defining art, defending the use of AI art, while exposing the artistic theft that goes unnoticed and clarifying why not all forms of theft are equal/harmful. We must treat art with both self-respect and humility. Humans are not the end-all-be-all.
