Atreus brings up a very interesting question. What difference did Groa think her lie would make when Asgard eventually gets destroyed in both versions and Odin would try to prevent it nevertheless?

Mimir brings up a very good point.

I personally feel that by hiding the truth, (knowing that at some point it will be discovered) Groa blinded Odin from realizing that the other realms will no longer put up with the Aesir after all the seeming tyranny meted out by Odin and Thor. The moment truth comes out, all the other realms will unite against Odin.

Had Odin known this earlier, in the name of self preservation, he and Thor may have laid waste to all the other realms.
