Soleil laughed, “Ramón? You can do whatever you want with him! He’s no longer important.”

“What- what do you mean, my love?” Ramón stuttered, “I don’t understand. I did my best, I’m sorry.”

She rolled her eyes, “Of course you don’t. That’s what I liked about you. You never understand. You’re just that incompetent.”

Ramón fell silent. He didn’t know what he should say to that, or even how he should feel. Should he be mad? Should he feel betrayed? Should he cry? Ermis was still holding a sword towards his back. He couldn’t do anything even if he wanted to.

“What? Speechless?” Soleil teased.

Ramón didn’t answer. He just stared at her. For some reason, he felt tears start to form in his eyes. Of course she was using him. How was he so blind?

He didn’t even notice that both Ermis and Soleil started arguing. He just tuned them out to listen to his own thoughts. He hardly even noticed the beam of light hurling towards him, only snapping back from his thoughts when he felt himself being forcibly pushed behind Ermis. He saw a mix of light and shadow fighting against each other for control. He then heard Soleil scream out in pain. He instinctively tried to rush over to her but Ermis held him back. Eventually, he remembered what she had said only a few minutes ago and stopped struggling against Ermis’ grip.

Ermis mentioned to a soldier to capture Soleil and take her with the rest of the captured soldiers. Once the soldier left with Soleil, Ermis threw Ramón to the ground.

“Are you going to kill me?” Ramón asked, his voice trembling slightly.

“No.” Ermis replied, picking up his sword off the ground, “I’m going to help you.”
