WHY does youtube make my videos look terrible?

I'm still playing wreckfest, and i'm still recording gameplay and I'm STILL uploading it, despite the fact that what shows up on youtube is nowhere near as nice as what my recordings look like on my pc. They're not 100% of the quality as the game, but they are still very nice, and yet when i upload them here, they get pixellated and foggy and I can't figure it out.

is it just that youtube is a free service and if i'm not making it any money i kind of get the poor-quality encoding? is this like net neutrality where unless i am paying extra I get the less-than-great quality encoding? If I was a monetized partner with 1000+ subscribers etc etc, would my videos look more like the originals?

I guess I'll never know.

I'm still uploading though - I like playing, i like watching my replays, and that's basically how it is for me. If other people like them, that's awesome too.
