It needs to be vanilla because most survival games players want a food system and people don't judge a game based on how it is in its modded state but on the vanilla experience, and mods can break with updates, or die entirely if the mod author doesn't update them
And to those who oppose food implementation please listen, no one's trying to force anything on you since the feature can be made optional anyway, you're the ones trying to force your playstyle on others by preventing an update that many people want, the game can be fun for everyone even with food! c=
