Are Japanese gaming companies desperate for their own live service game but not willing to invest over a year in them?

Adrian & Ehe are shocked to find that one of the only few competitors to Overwatch, Gundam Evolution, is shutting down after only a year of service updates. The game will officially be dead this coming November, and it has no plans for any form of continuation. We've seen this with Babylon's Fall, Let It Die (which did come back), The First Solider, and others.
