In my case, it's been a roller coaster of respect and self-doubt, of unanswered questions and unexpected enlightenment . Five years of discovering what it means to be part of a community. Of what it means to be a role model for others. Of learning to accept loss as a means of improvement.
As a child I never thought I would be travelling around the country, playing a video game for money. But I travel nor for business or pleasure.
I travel for them.
I travel for those individuals like me, who find joy in the simple act of competition. Striving to be the best that you allow yourself to be. And whether that means being a World Champion or the next underdog, and whether greatness is fighting for your country's pride or for the next spot on the couch, you play because it defines you. And I have no greater achievement in life than that happiness, sportsmanship, and comradery I let myself obtain through playing competitively.
At the end of the day, you win some and you lose some. Such is the life of a competitor. But the ones you compete against are not enemies or rivals. They're your friends.
