Why I still DO NOT like Challenger Decks | MTG's most deceptive product!
Recently Tolarian Community College interviewed Gavin Verhey, the "product architect" for the 2018 and now 2019 Challenger decks. In the interview both Gavin and TCC praised the challenger decks and evaded the problems surrounding them.
Last year, I was the sole MTG creator that was critical of the product and was accused of having ulterior motives based on secondary market decay of contents included, which was not the case. Regardless, I was attacked for being a "greedy speculator" not having the communities needs in mind. The fact however, was I was the only one calling out the deception about Challenger decks evading reprint equity and basically just milking Standard one last time before Kaladesh through Hour of Devastation cards lost all of their Standard value.
In this video I point out how if Wizards of the Coast wanted a product that had sustainability passed rotation, they would have included post-rotation cards like Vraska's Contempt, Search for Azcanta, or more modern sustainable cards like Walking Ballista or Fatal Push. This product simply was just pulling a fast one on us, ignoring real market equity, all the while trying to play the generous giver. 2019 Challenger decks will just be more of the same.
