Why I Think Muppet Pride and Prejudice Could Work
In this video, I talk for too long about Muppet Pride and Prejudice. I think it could work, because the original book has a lot of comedy in it. These comedic moments, especially the ones where Lizzy makes fun of Mr. Darcy, are usually not included in movie adaptations for a number of reasons, such as time considerations and a desire to focus more heavily on the romantic elements. It'd be fun to have a less serious adaptation that can lean on these comedic moments that usually get skipped.
People have complained Muppet Pride and Prejudice wouldn't work, because the Muppets have mostly male characters, while Pride and Prejudice has mostly female characters. I actually think Muppet Pride and Prejudice would be a great opportunity to introduce more female muppets. Particularly, I think Jane should be played by a new muppet character. Miss Piggy should play Lizzy, because Lizzy is the lead character, and it'd be funny to see her make fun of a human Mr. Darcy. This does lead to the problem of who Kermit would play, because I doubt people would want to see a romance movie with Kermit and Piggy, without Kermit and Piggy being a couple.
