A video essay on what makes Christopher Nolan’s Inception unique is not its by-play between reality and dreams but its integration of the psychoanalytic process into the very fabric of the narrative. I have analysed the film from a psychological or more specifically psychoanalytical perspective, based on ideas of Sigmund Freud, such as: The rebellious unconscious, The unconscious reveals itself in dreams, Oedipal/Electra conflicts, The unconscious and the social self, and the seductive power of fantasy. I also examine how Christopher Nolan redefines the blockbuster, manages to make Inception a fantasy fulfilment for our less discerning selves and how the film has a creative and thoughtful examination of psychological elements of the human condition for our more critical and mature selves. I also elaborate how Christopher Nolan executes an emotionally satisfying and, crucially, positive storyline while also answering questions such as: “Why Inception is a masterpiece?”, “What makes Inception special?”, “What Inception means?”, “What makes Inception unique?”, “What is the main point of Inception?”, “Why is Inception so famous?”, “Why is Cobb guilty in Inception?”, “Is Inception ending reality or a dream?”, “What is the moral of Inception?”. This film analysis can also be considered as an “Inception Explained” video essay.
Although Inception has been analysed extensively since its release and has also been analysed frequently through a psychoanalytical, philosophical, and metaphysical perspective, you can consider this video as an amalgamation of all those analyses or essays. Covering almost every element that makes Inception deeper than you might think.
