Why is the most popular OS in the world called Windows? Maybe because every single basic UI element, from buttons, to menus, to scroll bars, to text areas, are all actually just "windows". Meaning they have their own window handle, render call, and UI. Even your desktop is just a window, everything is a window and always has been.
