Why my 10 year old feature film kinda sucks
A film I made ten years ago when I was 17 has unexpectedly garnered lots of views, but also lots of criticism. In this video, I try to fix the three big issues underlying my 2010 film Roulette.
Roulette is undoubtedly the longest and most complex film I've ever made. Starting life as ten storyboard panels, the project grew into a 70-minute film that took me a year to complete. What's more, I embarked on this project aged just 17, at the height of my A-Levels. The project spanned my entire first year of uni too. To even have finished it is a massive achievement, but ultimately the story still kinda sucks - I was, after all, only 17 when I wrote it, and still a very inexperienced filmmaker. I had to make the film on a shoestring budget, casting from my friends, and using only locations I could blag my way into, but all of this could have paled into insignificance if the script was better.
Hopefully, by breaking down my own film, it might help you when you come to write yours.
