Let's be clear, I barely played a metroid game. I did played a little of the 1st one on NES & I have played Super Metroid.
Super Metroid to be honest, It's a really nice game on SNES & I can see why so many people love it.

Then suddenly, Nintendo thought it would be an ok idea to bring something like this & decided to call it metroid game?
..............................ok for 1, why? 2, U Seriously thought people are going to like the change of this?
This is actually no different than Crash Bandicoot when activision introduce Crash Of the Titans & Mind over Mutant!
