Why Stellaris is ulimately a boring game
Stellaris is a game with a lot of promise. You take command of a great empire that has taken to the stars and colonize planets. However, the premise does not mesh with the actual reality. There is very little depth in this game. If you play as an honorbound warrior race, the differences between that and a spiritual seekers is largely in the usage of military. Government ethics do not seem to affect the internal politics of each Empire. Factions are largely non-entities in a game where one can throw as many starships into battle with little consequence. Even in representative government, where voters partake in elections, the losses in a war do not effect their opinions. Authoritarian governments should have coups, revolutions and rebellions. The game feels static after 20 years of colonization because of the lack of life in a player's empire. Once the galaxy is filled to the brim, there are not many events that reflect how the Empire is actually changing. This makes for a game that feels almost the same every playthrough.
