Why you may be getting the Zombie Apocalypse - SB Chats Cities Skylines
In this video I talk about the Phenomenom that occurs to many people in Cities Skylines. Mass Deaths. You may have been there before. All of a sudden you have a sudden spike in deaths and your existing Death Care isn't able to handle the influx of people dying.
You look for various causes... Maybe they got sick? Nope, healthcare looks good. Maybe they are drinking polluted water? Nope, water is clean. Maybe it's just a mass suicide from living in your horrible city? Nope, I don't think suicide is modeled in this game, and your city might not be that horrible.
So what could the cause be? How much zoning (in particular Residential and more particularly High Density Residential did you recently do?
Did you Recently (over the last 6 years of in game time) fill up an entire 2x2 tile with a massive amount of new zoning? If you answered Yes to this question, that most likely is the cause.
You see, citizens have lifespans of about 6 years. When you bring in new residents, those new residents clock starts ticking. When you bring in MASSIVE amount of new residents within a short time, all their clocks start ticking, thus exists the Zombie Apocalypse.
Sure, you can download a mod that will vary when people die, but all you're doing is avoiding the cause. To understand the problem, you have to understand the reason why it happens. Maybe one day Colossal Order will change the lifespans so that they are a bit more variable, but generally mass zoning of anything brings with it it's own problems.
