On the surface, the Xbox Series S is obviously the cheapest next generation console. However, if we factor in the lack of pre-owned and/or discounted games, does the Xbox Series X actually end up cheaper in the long run?

The same holds true regarding the Digital-only PS5, and the ordinary PlayStation 5. With companies/publishers considering raising the price of games to $70, should we take away our ability to buy physical, discounted and/or pre-owned games, to avoid the initial extra cost?
