🔴 *** ABOUT ME ***
Hello! My name is Jay, and I am a long-time veteran of storytelling and a semi-seasoned DM! I began playing Dungeons and Dragons roughly 5 years ago and began my first ever game as the DM. I figured things out by watching online games and fumbling my way through the rules, and never looked back! I've fallen in love with TTRPG's in general and want to share my experience and thoughts with the world and community I love so much. I currently DM two separate games regularly, and continue to learn every day.

🔎 SCRIPT EXCERPT: (This isn't important, just stuff for the algorithm) 🔎
You know how people are always saying that humans are boring? That they are just the cookie cutter, most boring race that anyone could ever choose and if you do choose one you’re probably just playing a vanilla fighter and that’s that?
I’m gonna start this entire video with one potentially very hot take: I think the rogue, alongside the fighter to a certain degree, is just the human of the classes. Which may sound weird, right, but I promise there is an entire point to what I’m saying here.
Think about it, why are humans just so… basic? I mean. Besides the fact that you are playing a fantasy game where you can be anything and you’ve chosen to play… Well, what you already are.
But here’s the deal, to be honest, I’ve always found the fantasy of a human in D&D to be kind of fascinating. There’s just something to me about the idea of being in a world where there are so many races, with so many magical abilities, powers, ect. And yet as a human…
The only thing special about you is your determination. Because, let’s be super honest, in a world where every race has some sort of magical or abnormal ability, and humans are just humans, and yet still they seem to be a prevalent society… It means that there is definitely something about them that stands out.
And, to me at least, it’s the humans determination and drive to innovate, learn, and improve.
Maybe that’s just my own personal lore, who knows, but for me that’s why I find humans so fun.
So what does this have to do with the Rogue, you might ask? Well… The Rogue isn’t special. It’s not a Druid who controls magic, it’s not a Barbarian with a rage so powerful it negates pain and damage, it’s not a Paladin who can channel divine fury into their very strikes, they aren’t a monk who has harnessed Ki to propel their body beyond mortal limits… If you’re looking just at the base class? They’re just… Normal. Incredibly skilled, powerfully talented. But… Yeah. Normal.
And that normalcy, often, is what makes this class just as enticing to me as playing a human is.
I wanna talk about the strangely enticing fantasy of playing a class that is only as equipped as their wit and skill.
I want to talk about why the Rogue is a perfect example of the willpower to be better.
So, let’s talk about that.
