My thoughts have definitely gotten a bit more nuanced since this, thanks in part to the History Communication Institute's round table on Chat GPT. It can be useful as an accessibility tool, especially if there are detailed notes it is generating around, but it needs heavy, heavy human intervention to produce anything resembling "historical knowledge" and for 95% of what people are using it for, it is somewhere between merely wrong and abjectly harmful.
