WILL EA RUIN ANTHEM WITH MICROTRANSACTIONS?? A Famous Industry Analyst Makes His Predictions on EA..

Hey what’s going on freelancers? I think it’s safe to say, that 2017 has not been a good year for EA. EA has made one massive blunder after the other. First came the massive disappointment with mass effect andromeda, which led to BioWare Montreal closing , and the mass effect franchise being put on ice, then came the awful implementation of loot boxes in need for speed payback, and the monumental disaster of star wars battlefront 2’s loot crate scandal. So with one big game after the other, falling into disappointment and disaster at the hands of EA, its easy to see why many fear bout what they may do to Bioware’s most anticipated game, Anthem. One of their biggest upcoming releases is BioWare’s Anthem. Many fear that EA will force more microtransactions into the game that will be very invasive, as well as be involved with the gameplay’s core features. BioWare themselves tried to explain a while back that they were thinking about how to implement microtransactions in a way as to not upset gamers, but that was before battlefront 2. Now we have a recent prediction from a well known industry analyst, Michael Pachter, who strongly believes Anthem won’t follow the same path as Battlefront 2. In an exclusive interview with GamingBolt, article linked below, Pachter said he doesn’t think the game will have big microtransaction feature, and stated that he believes Anthem will be quite successful as well.
He states in the interview,
“I think if you look at companies that are successful in microtransactions, you’ll see that they are either making mobile games or free to play PC games. So there’s some formula to creating a compelling game along those lines that doesn’t seem to have translated over that well to console games yet by big publishers. I think the analogy is, the big publishers are like movie studios making these cinematic experiences, like Sony with Uncharted and Rockstar with GTA. So deciding that you like the other model, the mobile or League of Legends model, that’s not so easy to do- if it were, you’d see every company doing it.”
“So the question for Anthem is, will EA screw it up like with Star Wars? Or will they follow the Overwatch and Destiny roadmap, where the actual game is fun to play and the payments are ancillary? Because where they got into trouble with Star Wars was in making it pay to win. Had they limited themselves to purely cosmetic items, I don’t think anyone would have said anything. So Anthem has the potential to be Destiny like in terms of game experience, and Overwatch like in terms of microtransactions offered, where it’s all cosmetic and no one bats an eye.”

“I think right now EA is on probation with gamers, I think everyone is watching everything they do. I don’t think they can afford to put an onerous microtransaction scheme in any game going forward, they need to re-earn gamers’ trust again. So I hope they are sobered by this experience, and learn from it. But I think they are smart people, so I am sure they will do the right thing going forward. We’ll see.”
Well I disagree on the whole destiny 2 microtransactions not being a big deal, with all the recent eververse controversy, and I don’t think EA will drop microtransactions completely. They are about to win their third worst company in America award, and I feel like thy will still win a couple more of those awards before they earn back the trust of gamers. I do firmly believe anthem will not have any form of loot that is gameplay based, as EA needs Anthem to be a big win for them, and I believe if the game is anything like what we have seen so far, then it will sell incredibly well, after all I am already hyped about the game, and try to find out new details involving anthem every day.
