Will synthetic shares be erased or deleted from our accounts? can the hedgies use this to escape?
To cut a long story short, no, erasing shares would mean stealing shares from millions of people around the world which is outside the US jurisdiction. It would also cause the overnight failure of hundreds of trading platforms as all customers would close their accounts due to money being stolen and 0 fairness/transparency.
The SEC would literally have to admit to billions of synthetics, that they knew nothing about, and that their report on Gamestop and AMC was entirely wrong and they failed to investigate properly.
However, it is important to buy your shares in cash accounts, not margin accounts, as brokers can change margin requirements on a whim to whatever they want.
