Windjammers 2 Open Beta Gameplay
0Windjammers 2 is an upcoming sports game developed and published by Dotemu. As the sequel to Windjammers (1994), the game is scheduled to be released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021.
Windjammers is a sports game played from a top-down perspective. Similar to ice hockey, players are tasked to shoot a frisbee at the goal zone of the opponent attempting to score. In the game, players select different stages and characters. Some characters from the original game, including Wessel, return for the sequel. Each character has their own attributes. For instance, some characters have more steady control than others at the cost of speed. There are EX Moves, which are special powers can be that activated for gameplay advantages. Both single-player and local multiplayer modes are featured. The game includes an "Arcade Mode", where multiple matches are played through championships.
Dotemu, the game's developer and publisher, approached Paon DP, the intellectual property owner for Windjammers, a chance to develop a port to the original game and develop a brand new game in the series. In order to be faithful to the original game, Kevin Delbrayelle, who had retro-engineered the first game's program codes during the production of its port, return to lead the sequel's technical development. Similar to Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap and Streets of Rage 4, the game features hand-drawn 2D animation visuals. The game's preproduction started in late 2017 and the title was officially announced during a Nintendo Direct held in August 2018. The game is set to be released for Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch, and was planned for a 2019 release, but got delayed to early 2020. In December 2020, Dotemu confirmed that the game was delayed again to 2021. In February 2021, a demo for the game was released for PC during the Steam Game Festival, and was available until February 9, 2021.
