Wing and X-Class racing from Popham Airfield
On Saturday 16th October, I drove up to Popham airfield to take a look at the UK's first official wing race. Although, happily enough, this was also combined with some X-Class racing. This is what I witnessed.
The race director for the day was Cerberus Velvet who tirelessly live-streamed the entire event (except for when the generator went down) you can catch the whole thing on his Killakwads channel here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agkRklXLkkU&t=2268s&ab_channel=KillaKwads
**IMPORTANT UPDATE** Cerberus has let me know that the timing system actually worked perfectly (aside from when one of the wings hit it and managed to unplug it) There was a bit of a worry it wouldn't because of the higher altitude the wings passed over the timer, but it was spot on. My point of confusion was that the spotters were keeping lap counts - but this was just done as a backup in case of any queries.
Find all the cool antennas from Menace here https://menacerc.co.uk/ and if you want to build your own X-Class rig, go and check out FossilStuff here https://www.fossilsstuff.com/ (as mentioned, there were probably many more sponsors on the day, but I spoke to Greg and Martin - so they get a plug :D )
