War rarely starts as a 'bolt from the blue'; the build up of massive forces, heavy radio traffic and belligerent political rhetoric give away a nation's intention's long before the first shots- however, many times the target nation is helpless to do anything about the pending invasion, except prepare for the inevitable.*

Such was the case with Poland in 1939. For quite some time German forces had been massing all along Poland's borders. Ships transported vast amounts of men and material to Koenigsberg for the Army forces in East Prussia; radio traffic increased where once there was none. Contrails from high level reconnaissance planes criss-crossed the Polish sky, belying an invader's intentions.*

Harder still than preparing for the invasion, is the actual execution of such an event. Orders fail to reach the proper hands in a timely manner; sometimes, they don't arrive at all. Such is the stuff of war- 'organized chaos'.*

One such event occured in late August of 1939 in East Prussia. Units all along the Polish frontier had been given the go code to invade from orders for Fall Weiss issued the night before; however, last minute political wrangling by Poland had made Hitler decide to forstall the invasion for a few more days, and thus send a contradictory order,
calling off the invasion.*

All along the German lines, frantic messages telling units to hold their positions were being diseminated. Unfortunately for the men of Kompany 2, the order rescinding the go code had not reached them at H-Hour, the time of invasion. As the men moved out from their
assembly areas, one thought was on their minds; sieze the defensive works erected by the Poles along the East Prussian/Polish border- and survival. Theirs would be the first actions of the Polish Campaign.*

As commander of Kompany 2, your mission is to sieze the defensive works along the frontier so that follow on forces can penetrate deep into Polish territory.
(Historical note: After a short, sharp battle in which losses were heavy but the defenses taken, the German forces received orders to fall back to their assembly areas. Incredibly, the German soldiers would be asked to re-enact the same assault 3 days later on the same
piece of ground).
