With a lot of people not being able to define what time is, yet also not accept the fact that most of what this Universe is about is beyond their petty meaning, well... it is obvious a lot of people will automatically believe everything that is beyond their understanding. Firstly because it's made in an entertaining way. Most SF movies nowadays keep poisoning people's minds with the "immortality of robots" and "time travel".
This is one topic I cannot offer, for now, a full answer on, yet I prefer reminding people to simply stop chasing meaning that is bound to aspects beyond their experience. Everything can be possible outside of your experience, especially if one is not well rooted in reality.
