Hello folks. Today I am coming to you raw and unedited from Shetland on the northern coast of Scotland. The Western Isles of Scotland inspired the Skellige Isles in the Witcher 3 so because I'm on an island that resembles those Isles I figured I would do a quick video about the origins of "The Fields Of Ard Skellig". the song has am excerpt from an 18th century song called Fear a Bhata which is Scots Gealic for "The Boatman" and is a very sad yet hauntingly beautiful song about a woman (Jean Findlayson) awaiting her true love the boatman who spent many nights at sea. he was also a womaniser so many people considered here a fool for ever loving him. The story has a happy ending and Jean did marry her beloved boatman soon after the song was composed. its a very fitting song for the islands of Skellige not only because you sail around Skellige but for the many Skelligan women awaiting their boatmen on the highest hilltop just like Jean sings about. there are different versions of the song and some translations differ bit the meaning ever remains the same.
