The Royal Griffin is a sub-species of the common griffin. It is the first serious monster that you will fight. One, and likely the only difference from regular griffins, is their size, with longer wings and a larger body.
Geralt, along with Vesemir, first encounter this sub-species in White Orchard for a contract  in exchange for a pouch of gold and info about Yennefer  of Vengerberg.
