Wixoss Starter Deck Double Feature (Carnival and Dona 5th Anniversary Decks)
Pretty cool stuff, actually. It's a shame Wixoss didn't come out in English sooner because Key and All Star format decks look so fascinating to me. It would have probably been the most exciting thing to play. It definitely would have been addicting for me. On to a quick overview of the featured decks...
Carnival's deck is a generic Black Threshold style strategy where the more cards in your trash the better your effects. A lot of her Arts and Spell cards let you cycle through your trash to pull the cards you need and it seems like a fairly solid strategy right out of the box.
Dona's deck is based off the Outcast/Layer mechanic which is exactly like Slivers from Magic the Gathering. However, unlike Magic, Wixoss has a set limit of Signi you can have on your field so no insane go-wide strategies here. The trade off is that because field space is tighter the effects can be way stronger since they can only be shared with two other creatures tops. Unlike Carnival's list, Dona's has a lot of different card ratios so it was a lot harder to assess. I think it's good? There seems to be a heavy focus on searching/recursion so this is a smart way to compensate for the awkward ratios by making the deck a toolbox strategy. It reminds me of HEROs from Yu-Gi-Oh where you can play 3 E-Call, 3 Stratos and a RotA. So naturally, it's my favorite of the two.
