Malfoy continues to exist purely to be an inconvenience to everyone around him. Neville gets punished for successfully preventing his toad's death, thanks to Snape being the shittiest teacher ever (at least until Book 5). But at least he gets his revenge by putting a stuffed vulture on imaginary Snape's head. Lupin then manages to finally escalate the DADA class to at least the same level as Charms and Transfiguration by letting the kids actually do magic and have some fun with it. Granted, they have to display a very vulnerable side of themselves to the rest of the class in the process, but nobody seems to mind. Following this, Harry finds himself alone (aside from Colin, who is deemed to be a worse companion than none at all), and aimlessly wanders the school for a while. Eventually Lupin invites him over due to a lack of anything better to do, and they manage to have a nice little bonding moment in an otherwise pretty empty chapter. And then apparently Sirius Black showed up when everyone was at the feast, wait what
