Sir-Tech's 'Wizardry 2 - The Knight of Diamonds' was released originally released in 1982. The land of Llylgamyn is in upheaval, and the only thing that can save it is for a band of heroes to retrieve the Staff of Gnilda from a six level temple.
On home computers at the time, this game originally did not come with a character generator. You had to import your characters from the previous title, and the box warned you of that. It was designed to be for characters level 13+. Later versions would come with a pre-gen party and a character generator due to popular demand.
Reception of the sequel was mixed. Each level of the dungeons had quests, and there were many new monsters to appreciate, but the game seemed best suited only for hardcore RPG gamers. Despite this, it was given "Best Adventure Game for Home Computer" at Origins Game Fair 1982, and continued to defeat the Ultima series (Ultima II, in this case). Between Ultima and Wizardry, many of the conventions in CRPGs today were being established by these two series.
The NES version of this game was not a pure port. The levels were completely redesigned, and the game was altered to be able to be played with a new party instead of importing your party from the first game (although interestingly the Famicom used an accessory called ASCII Turbofile to allow you to import your party from the first game, but this feature was obviously removed for the Western NES market). The Famicom version also features the ability to switch between Japanese and English text.
The music from this remake is from the NES version.
