After a cutscene of the Taoist in Black encouraging Jiao to consume the glowing orb of power, he violently transforms into a gigantic beast-like version of himself.
The majority of Jiao's attacks revolve around the use of his staff/club to conjure various magical effects. He can summon orbs of electricity, a deluge of lightning bolts from above, a ring of wind and debris (that can be deflected through), and tornadoes that shoot out in your general direction.
All of these can be deflected, but more often than not (as this fight requires you to keep on the move), you'll just end up naturally avoiding most of the spells and AOE effects. This is particularly the case with Sun Jian being a companion in this fight, frequently drawing aggro completely off of you.
Zhang Jiao has two Critical Blow attacks. The first is a simple slam of his club. He will raise it into the air directly above him, hold it there for a second or two, then slam it down. With the delay before the slam and the red glow denoting Critical Blow attacks, this one is relatively easy to deflect just as it is coming down, or dodge backwards the escape its range.
The second Critical Blow attack is a lunge with the claws on his left hand. As expected, his hand will glow red as he prepares this attack, pulling his hand and arm backwards before lunging forward in your direction. Hold off on deflecting until the very moment the claws reach you (and due to the size of the arena they almost always will), and you will kick his hand to the side, temporarily tripping him over and letting you get in some free hits.
Zhang Jiao will also use the usual swipes and sweeps with his arms/claws, and whilst you can jump, deflect, or dodge them, they won't deal too much damage should they connect, and therefore it might just be worth making the trade of taking some damage so that you can keep the pressure on Jiao.
