When Omar Cornut began researching the hidden secrets in Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, he had no idea that he'd accidentally produce a full remake of the game along the way!

Full disclosure: this is a video that Kotor pushed for. As a lifelong Sega fanboy (a hard thing to be in the modern era) he has fond memories of the Master System, and the absolutely gorgeous artstyle of Lizardcube's Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap remake of the classic 1989 Sega game made him instantly fall in love with the project.

There's just one problem: we don't have a modern console. Because we are chumps. So while waiting for The Dragon's Trap to drop on Steam (it was infuriatingly delayed), and in between playing Wonder Boy in Monster Land on the Master System, Kotor started researching this video, as he figured, if he couldn't play the game, he could do the next best thing and learn all about it.

That's funny in a way, as it's also how The Dragon's Trap came about. Omar Cornut was an obsessive Master System fanatic who wanted to learn everything about all the hidden secret doors and Easter Eggs in his favourite game, Wonder Boy III. He even contacted Ryuichi Nishizawa, the creator of the game, to ask for more details about its code. Eventually, Omar realised that he'd done enough work to produce a complete remake of Wonder Boy, and he set to work turning his passion project into a real game.

There's a lot we can learn from Omar's story. You never know where your passions may lead you. Keep working hard, and you'll find where you belong in life, and achieve your goals!

Apologies, by the way, if the music's too quiet. We're still getting the hand of audio editing. This one's a bit awkward in a lot of places, but it's the best we can do, and hopefully you'll be patient as we figure out this whole editing thing.

Special thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters for help with this video. We had no idea when we started our campaign that we'd get such wonderful feedback from you guys, and we're really appreciative of everyone who's supporting us in making these videos. As a result, we're hoping to increase our speed in actually getting these things done, so if you'd like to chip in to help us towards our goal of making a regular weekly series, head on over to our Patreon page:
