In this video, I talked to Ankur Garg. He is an IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Delhi grad. He has worked at McKinsey and Co prior to working at BCG. He is currently a Project Leader at BCG focused on TMT (Tech, Media, Telecom) and Growth Tech (startups) practices. We talked about Consulting vs Industry to start off the conversations. Ankur has worked at Paytm and also has great experience working in Consulting. This conversation will help aspiring consultants or professionals who are seeking to shift to consulting understand the key differences.
Make Sure you watch part 1 for this
The second part is about how Management Consulting landscape is really like. Work Life balance and the subsequent parts about Interview preparation will help you a lot. This is a must watch video for management consulting aspirants.
Then we talked about work-life balance. It boils down to setting boundaries for yourself. Ankur explained how he is trying to achieve a work-life balance at the moment. At the end of this segment, we discussed how the young folks entering into consulting should perceive work-life balance. Fast career growth and a tendency to make convenient decisions don’t go hand in hand. Ankur explained why it is important to understand what you really want in your career and build a fulfilling career around that.
After this, we talked about the challenges in front of the Consulting Industry. The rise of AI and the several use cases emerging out of it can put many consultants in jeopardy. Solving for the right talent and moving from solving growth problems to actually coming up with efficient solutions should be the focus in the future. The development of various tools to help clients even after the engagement ends should be emphasized.
Many consulting aspirants are confused between BCG vs McKinsey vs Bain. Ankur’s advice on this will help you understand that it doesn’t matter. You can’t go wrong if you are in a position to choose between these consulting firms. Lastly, Ankur shared a very important management consulting interview tip that every management consulting aspirant can benefit from. Hope you like this video and please let me know who else should I bring on for a talk next time.
