Workbench 3.1 Guide 11/12 - Manual Install LZX, DMS and Dopus 4.12CU - by LemonAmiga.com
In this section of the guide, I install LZX from the Aminet, using the command line interface, and I also try to install Directory Opus 4 using CU Amiga magazine Cover Disk 100. Things didnt go exactly to plan, but we get there in the end.

Anyone who starts out with the Amiga operating system will probably feel a bit out of their depth at first, until they get used to some kind of directory tool, to speed up their file management experience. Some people recommend the DiskMaster series of tools, but since CU Amiga released the full version of Directory Opus on there, I have been hooked on using it ever since - to the point where I bought the PC version, and still use that every single day I use my PC!
In this guide I tried to install the package from the official web site and couldn't get it to run, so I went back to the old and trusted method of using the CU disk. Unfortunately it is compressed with DMS, so that is another step we learn as we try to unpack the disk. Having got the package on a new disk, it is relatively straight forward to install it manually from there. Most packages work in the same way. As long as you copy over any Libs and Commands to where they need to go, then most often the package will run out of the box. In this case DOpus needs a line adding to the startup-sequence, to run Dopus.RT. Im not sure to what extent this affects the running of the software.
Next time, we'll check out some funky coloured icons!
