Homemade working PAPR system for about £20, this simply relies on using a camping mattress inflator or similar with a 40mm filter wedged onto the air intake port and a 40mm hose wedged onto the exhale port.
To make this fully safe you'd need to glue using an airtight adhesive the filter and hose onto the system. Ideally gluing a 40mm female port to the air intake and a 40mm male port to the air outtake, this can be done by cannibalising a 40mm hose.

The problem with this system is that the inflator will eventually burn out as unlike a real PAPR system it's not designed for the air resistance of a gas and particle filter.
However some higher end inflators may be designed to have overheat protection etc.
