Known as 'The Circuit' in Japan and the spiritual successor to GP-World on the SG-1000. Like its predecessor, World Grand Prix has you racing against the clock across various circuits. This game features a number of upgrades over GP-World in that each of the 12 tracks are based on real life race circuits like Fuji Speedway, Paul Ricard and Monaco. Additionally, after each race you are awarded points based on how fast your time was, and these points can be used to upgrade your car for the following race. Opponents serve as nothing more than obstacles in a similar fashion to Pole Position, and will sometimes swerve across the track making sure you're always paying attention. Additionally, if the 12 tracks aren't enough for you there is even a track editor to make your own courses to race on!

Overall, this is a fun early game for the Master System with some nice parallax scrolling effects and unique backgrounds for each circuit. I just wish it had some music while you are racing as the droning sound effects get a bit annoying after a while. I also wish it had an ending screen instead of looping back to the first course after completing all 12, but this was common for the era (and also present in GP-World) so I can't be too critical here.

Recorded from an NTSC-J Master System via an EasyCap capture device.

Enjoy ^_^
