In gaming there is a loose theory that says the third game in a series is going to usually be crap. That is why it is a loose theory, it doesn’t really apply unless your name is SNK. Sega had slowly been nicking away at the armor of Nintendo for years and with World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, they got a critical hit. Disney was not one to only allow one company to license their games which led to more than one by more than one company. Capcom was pretty much holding the Nintendo side of Mickey Mouse games up while Sega brought their own version to Sega Genesis/Master System/Game Gear owners. World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck is the third title in the “Illusion” series by Sega. They have gone on to release at least one more game (Legend) and a remake of Castle of Illusion for Android/iOS and Windows.
