Worst Levels Ever # 49
A series all about terrible video game levels, or ones I hate a lot.
Unfortunately, although there are lots of fantastic levels and stages in video games, there are also a fair few awful ones.
Star Fox Adventures has been almost entirely forgotten these days, and sadly, that's for good reason: if I had to put a personal list of Most Disappointing Games of All-time together, the final home console game RareWare ever made for Nintendo would surely make its mark on it.
In the SNES and N64 era, Rare were the kings of the video gaming world, making one hit after another, and even the games that had their issues (Donkey Kong 64) had a special magical air to them.
But Star Fox Adventures failed to live up to the level of quality I'd come to expect from Rare. Beautiful graphics aside, the gameplay is shockingly generic - I went in hoping this could be a Zelda-like adventure to rival Ocarina of Time, just like how Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing arguably trumped their Nintendo counterparts, but left sorely disappointed.
Did the Microsoft buy-out force them to rush the game? Did changing the characters to Star Fox characters waste important development time? Whatever the cause was, the final result left a lot to be desired.
That's not to say the game is without its metrits. If you set your expectations aside, you can still have an enjoyable enough time on Dinosaur Planet and its neighboring planets... well, until it's time to obtain the third Krazoa spirit, that is...
