WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers - The First 60 Minutes | Xbox Series X Gameplay
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a brutal soulslike action RPG where you slash through a plague-ridden Ming Dynasty China as a feathered pirate warrior. Here’s what you need to know.
You play as Bai Wuchang, an amnesiac pirate waking up with the Feathering disease, a nasty affliction turning folks into bird-beast monstrosities. Your quest: hunt mystical artifacts to cure yourself and unravel your past, slicing through grotesque enemies and eerie landscapes inspired by Chinese mythology, all while dodging attacks from locals who’d rather skewer you than chat.
The combat is a bloody delight, letting you chain flashy combos, spells, and weapon skills with a Skyborn Might system that rewards perfect dodges and parries with devastating power-ups. You’ll feel like a mythic badass weaving through enemies in bamboo forests and misty temples, thanks to a massive skill tree that lets you craft a build as unique as your feathered arm. The level design is a love letter to Dark Souls, with interconnected paths and secrets that beg exploration.
But ouch, the pain. The bosses can be infuriating, with erratic attack patterns that feel like pure luck to counter, and performance issues—lag and frame drops—can make your system wheeze. The story’s cryptic delivery might leave you lost, and “gotcha!” ambushes are as fun as stepping on a Lego.
Despite the rough edges, Wuchang’s stunning world and tight combat make it a soulslike gem. Dive in if you crave a challenge, but pack patience for the grind.
