WWE Day of Reckoning 2 - Gamecube Gameplay 1080p |Dolphin GC/Wii Emulator| MMJ #DolphinEmulator
After getting many GCN games on my Wii, as well as a GC controller, I have been having the most fun I've had in a while with a plethora of classics that I've never got to play since I've only been a Nintendo fan for only a year. And if you mix that with the fact that I'm somewhat of a wrestling fan, it was inevitable that I would check out the wrestling games that was on the purple lunchbox. The one I started with is this one, and I gotta say. For an early-mid 2000s wrestling game, I'm very impressed. It's not absolutely amazing, but it's got more than enough to be a wrestling classic. The visuals are superb, and have aged surprisingly well. Not as good as newer games, of course, but they still look great. The music, overall, is pretty awesome, too, as there is some variety in the OST, as well as some memorable tunes that fit perfectly with this type of game. The gameplay is incredibly satisfying and just fun all around. It took me a bit to get used to, but once I got the hang of it, it became addicting. The amount of match types are both plentiful and very fun, as there's pretty much everything you would want from this era, like hell in a cell, steel cage, hardcore, TLC, and more. The same can be said for each arena you fight in, as the WWE in the mid 2000s was known for having amazing stage design, which is translated in this game perfectly, as every venue is just a joy to behold. Speaking of, the Shopzone is here, which is how you unlock other arenas, as well as moves, clothing, and other gear. It's super fun to do, as there's a lot of great stuff to unlock with money, which is earned via the story mode. The story mode in this game is amazing, as it not only has a very intriguing narrative, but it also includes your created Superstar. And if you mix that with the phenomenal gameplay and visuals, it's a massive highlight of the game. My only real gripe, which isn't even a big one, is the lack of any voice acting, but with the addition of a created character cleverly in the story, I'd say the tradeoff was worth it. Earning money in this mode is not only fair, but it's also fun, too, which is definitely a plus. The create modes are shockingly amazing, here, as not only is the Create a Wrestler one of the most robust I've ever tinkered with, but the create an entrance is very detailed and also very robust. They're so phenomenal, that they could easily be in a newer game. While that all is certainly well and good, there are, unfortunately, a few things this game sort of missed the mark on. The roster, for example, is just sort of meh. It's not bad, as it has most of the wrestlers you would expect from this era, as well as a few legends. But, with the strange absence of some wrestlers, as well as only 4 divas (no Lita either, for some reason), the roster is kind of lackluster with no real wow factor. It's good, but not great. The lack of any backstage area, whatsoever, is the most disappointing, considering that even the PS1 Smackdown! games had them. My only guess is that this was maybe due to the GCN disc being tiny, but still. I feel like if they tried to implement it more, it would've easily fit on the disc. I'm no game developer, so I could be wrong. But, this was something I was hoping to be standard. Thankfully, the rest of the game is super fun, so it's not a deal-breaker, by any means, but it's still worth noting. Besides these gripes, this is a great wrestling game that, despite it's limitations, is probably still a little better than some of the WWE games today, which is kind of sad, but still. With that said, I absolutely recommend anyone who's a wrestling fan to check this out, as it is, despite having some minor stumbles, a phenomenal wrestling game that shouldn't be ignored by anyone who's looking for an action packed and fun time.
