X-Com Apocalypse on Windows 7
Lots of people have been asking me how to get Apocalypse running on modern PCs, so this is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make X-Com Apocalypse work on Windows 7 using Dosbox. The tutorial specifically deals with the original CD and how to rip and mount it. If you've bought Apocalypse on Steam only some of these steps will apply to you (the dosbox CPU config steps, mostly).
Here are the steps, if my commentary has been too vague:
1. Download dosbox.
2. Install dosbox.
3. Download Daemon tools lite.
4. Install Daemon tools lite.
5. Using Daemon tools, create an image of your original Apocalypse CD.
6. Add an SCSCI virtual drive with Daemon tools.
7. Mount the Apocalypse CD image onto the virtual drive.
8. Setup a Dosbox config file as per my video instructions.
9. Run the shortcut (as per my instructions) and install Apocalypse using the FULL installation setting.
10. Run the sound setup for Apocalypse and follow my video instructions.
11. Edit your dosbox config file for Apocalypse again to make the shortcut run the game automatically.
12. Fine-tune dosbox CPU speed.
13. PLAY!
