Today I take a look at the X3MB Buran MIDI Module from Serdaco. It’s a very compact Sound Canvas 55 alternative with an impressive 50 megabyte instrument bank, and an interesting 3D printed case design. It sounded great no matter what obscure MIDI file or DOS game I threw at it. And of course now I can tell all my friends about the Soviet space shuttle when they see this unit on my shelf.
Note that this is a MIDI only device, and it doesn't play digital sound effects.
Please forgive interference noise on some of the more quiet recordings – I’m obviously in need of better wiring, or maybe just some ground loop isolators.
