XCOM has secured another disabled supply shipment from Advent, but at a heavy cost. Lt. Paula Brown, one of the initial conscripts aboard the Avenger and the most seasoned Grenadier among XCOM's operatives, was gunned down while holding the line against Advent forces. Her death has weighed heavily on the troops and command officers alike, reminding everyone aboard that death can come at any moment for those who work within the Resistance.

The Avenger makes contact with resistance elements in New Chile, and operatives there begin to compile intel on an Advent facility there which is crucial to the Avatar project. With several key soldiers wounded and in recovery in the Advanced Warfare Center, XCOM must bide its time before assaulting the facility.
