XCOM's comeback streak continues with Operation Soaring Whale, in which they are tasked with neutralizing a hostile VIP smack dab in the middle of an ADVENT city center. This VIP didn't skimp on their own security either, as our troops find themselves contending not only with the usual ADVENT forces, but also the newly "unlocked" Codex. On top of that, the Chosen Assassin decides that she also wants a piece of the action, and joins the fray! She also wastes no time in exercising her "Mechlord" ability to summon Advanced MECs to the field!

Normally, I'd say this is a recipe for disaster, but our troops are up to the challenge and get to work eliminating every last alien on the map. To add insult to injury, we even give their VIP a faceful of rifle stock before running off with them back to the Avenger. "Soaring Whale" turned out to be describing the VIP all along! What's more, ADVENT hates that so much that the game crashes in response to the result of the mission. Well, it probably crashed because of something else, but I'd like to believe that it was due to AI saltiness.

Following this, we take a five second break for resource management before I decide to keep the momentum going and launch the next mission, which finally takes us to the ADVENT Blacksite. With that begins Operation "Buried Hero," which goes loud fairly quickly and sees the return of the Chosen Assassin, who it seems chose not to rest either.
